1. What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
It’s a chance to thank, appreciate and celebrate the amazing women who came before us, so we can live how we do now. It’s an opportunity to continue to raise up and support the women around us now. But it’s mainly the chance to highlight and shine a light on how far we still have to go in terms of gender equality.
I grew up with a family led by my amazing mother who empowered me every day to achieve everything I could, as did my father. I have two brothers and it was never even questioned that I couldn’t do everything they could. However this is a life of great privilege and International Women’s Day raises the profile of those women around the world who don’t have even basic human rights let alone gender equality. It’s a chance for us to stand alongside them and continue to fight for equality together, which we should do every day.
I look forward to the day when we don’t even need to have an International Women’s Day but every day is equal.
2. Describe a bit about what you do and what lead you there?
I run a communications agency called WDW Entertainment with two formidable female business partners. We founded the company having become sick of working for men and wanting to change the way we do things. We have the most amazing team, who I learn from every single day and feel privileged to work alongside. We’re kind, we listen to each other and empower one another to work hard and achieve all that we can.
3. What advice do you have for women aiming for leadership positions?
Build an amazing team. Empower, support and build up those around you. Listen and learn from everyone you work with, every single day. Hire people who are better than you and will teach you new things. Don’t be afraid to challenge those around you and be prepared to be challenged. Be kind. Communicate!
4. In terms of female entrepreneurship, What’s one key leadership lesson you’ve learned along the way that you can pass on to our followers?
Believe in yourself and know your worth.
It sounds cheesy but in the work place men tend to over sell themselves and women massively undersell themselves. Fight through the self doubt and know your value!
5. Favorite Cinta The Label piece this season?
